I’ll try and explain the most simple ways on how you can make your life simpler from my own experience.
The first one, of course, is getting rid of/giving away things you do not need or do not use anymore. If it helps, make two piles, one pile of things you know you don’t need and other one to think about for a while whether you do need those items or not. Then, you either trash it, or if you’re a good person and you have a lot of time you can give it away to someone who will find more use out of those items than you would, like a second hand shop or whatever they have in your country.
Have clothing items that you actually wear, that you actually use in day to day life. I keep about 3 pairs of pants (jeans, black jeans and sand colored jeans, two skirts, about 3 dresses, one pair of shorts, several t-shirts and several sweaters+outerwear). Same for shoes, let’s just say I do not have a lot.
Keeping track of what you actually need, of things that are necessary. This includes ignoring all sorts of advertisements that are in your face telling you to buy things, it helps you to be mindful. If it helps, make a list to keep track of the things you are running out of, like toothpaste, so you’re not left with an empty tube and you didn’t have time to go shopping. Same goes for all other items.
Digitalize things. It might sound bad to some people to get rid of books, but damn, you can have any book you want on your kindle device. You can have any book you wish to read with the e-book taking up minimal space. Plus, it’s convenient. Digitalize documents, you can even digitalize all your pictures and keep them that way, there are companies that specialize in archiving things like that. Have things scanned rather than in paper form, etc.
Same goes for diet. My diet is very simple. It mostly contains of rice, pasta, potatoes, vegetables and fruits (mostly bananas) and fish. It’s not on purpose, it’s just all the things that I love eating anyway and can’t go a day without any of those foods, I guess it’s easier for me, I’m a simple Joe.
If you’re just getting started, I suggest you listen to some of The Minimalists podcasts, even though I’m not a huge fan of then but they make some pretty decent points.
Draw inspiration from other people. But mostly, don’t become too obsessed with it, make it simple, make everything simple.
